STAR SPLASH
Each year as the Mother’s Day Celebration draws near, there are lots of talk on how to make your mother feel extra special on that day. However, when Father’s day arrives, there is hardly any mention of it. Therefore, in 2005 the Men’s Fellowship of the Calvary Baptist Tabernacle decided to raise the standard for Fathers’ Day, by hosting a different type of event.
The event which was dubbed ‘STAR SPLASH’ was held on Fathers’ Day. Christian men from churches around the island were invited to compete in song in front of a packed congregation, and several men excitedly signed up to be part of this first time ever event. The night was filled with wonderful performances including dramatizations that rocked the crowd with laughter and cheer. The event was such a huge success that it was the talk of the town for months after.
This astounding success created a demand for the Men’s Fellowship to make ‘STAR SPLASH’ an annual event. Thus, the Fathers’ Day Celebration at Calvary Baptist Tabernacle has been completely transformed from just another day, to a day for which people anxiously await in order to see the participants perform.
The quality of participants has grown over the years bringing something new to the competition each year. In 2005 participants were allowed to sing any song of their choice, and the winner received a small token. Each year the standard became higher taking it to another level, and so by the 2008 competition participants were composing their own songs for the event, and the winner was crowned King and received several significant donations.
The talented men that have won the competition over the years are: Audel Mckoy in 2005, Thomas Richards in 2006, Collin Mulley in 2007 and the reigning 2008 King Marvin Thompson.
The future looks very bright for STAR SPLASH as more sponsors come on board providing bigger and better prizes for the men who participates. We look forward to your continued support.
God bless you all.
